TURUA TOWN BOARD.
GENERAL MEETING. The regular meeting of the Turua Town Board was held on Wednesday last. There were present Messrs A. P. Gardiner, C. Scott', F. Olsen,. J. Muels, J. T. Davies,' and the clerk, Mr J. E. Green. Mr J. Mules was appointed chairman for /the meeting. POLICE PROTECTION. A business man of Turua wrote bringing the inadequate police protection pf Turua before the Board, and asking that the matter be given consideration. After considerable discussion Mr Gardiner, moved that a copy of the letter be forwarded to the constable, .and that, an explanation as to its correctness or otherwise be asked for. This was seconded by Mr F. Olsen, and carried; 1 OUTSTANDING RATES. The clerk stated that lhe sum of £l3o' had been collected and an amount of £B7 was outstanding, and that the working account for next year would be 75 per cent, of the rates collected before March 31, as that was the limit of the overdraft allowed. Mr Scott moved that notices be sent out stating that all rates unpaid by March 15 will be sued for. —Seconded by Mr plsen, and carried. LATE CHAIRMAN’S DESIGNATION. Mr Mules stated tha t a deputation waited upon the late chairman, who refused to reconsider his decision to resign. On the motion of Mr' Mules, seconded by Mr Davies, Mr Bennett’s resignation was accepted. After considerable discussion the matter of electing a chairman was deferred until next nieettng. It was decided that a special meeting of the Board be held on Wednesday, 21st inst., to deal with general business.
