FARMERS’ QUARREL.
CASE AT MAGISTRATE’S COURT. At the Magistrate’s Court on Monday evening, before Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M., D. T. Clotworthy, farmer, of Turua (Mr O’Neill), claimed from A. JTregoweth, farmer, of Netherton (Mr Porritt), the sum of £9B 2s Bd. Portion of the claim had been paid into Court, and the matter in dispute was an item of £55 10s, being balance owing for cows sold by plaintiff to defendant. The defendant did not deny that t,he amount was originally owing, but sought to prove that the plaintiff had subsequently promised to forego the balance. Both parties werp examined at considerable length, but the defendant was unable to prove his contention. The Magistrate, in summing up, remarked that there was clearly a balance to the plaintiff, but as the defendant had been unfortunate he would adjourn the case till next Court day to enable counsel an opportunity to settle the matter amicably.
