PAEROA HIGH SCHOOL

MONTHLY COMMITTEE MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Paeroa. District High School Committee was held on Saturday evening. Present: Messrs C. Pascpe (chairman), E. E. Gillman, C. Cane, W. Power, A. .T. Garry, and W. Lawrence (secretary and treasurer). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs W. H. Taylor (chairman) and G. H. Taylor (headmaster). INFANTS’ ROOM. Mr Gillman reported that he had gone into the matter of more ventilation and better lighting in the infants’ room, and was preparing an estimate to be submitted to the Board’s architect. in the course of a few days. HOLIDAY FOR RACES. In view of the enormous amount of motor traffic constituting a danger to the children on race days the committee decided to declare Wednesday, March 14, a special holiday. BOUNDARY FENCE. It was decided to inform Mr Barclay of the committee’s intention to repair the boundary fence between his property and the headmsater’s residence forthwith. SCHOOL PICNIC. The secretary reported that perfect weather had prevailed for the annual school picnic, and a thoroughly enjoyable day was spent. The total expense in connection therewith was £64 7s 4d. MANUAL SCHOOL. On the motion of Mr Gillman the secretary was . instructed to confer with the headmaster 'with reference to the reply received from the Minister of Education, in connection with the establishment, of a manual and technical school in Paeroa. SCHOOL GARDEN. Appreciative references were made to Mr F. Wilks’ work in connection with the school flower gardens, especially the .two Wood Street plots. The secretary was instructed to convev the committee’s thanks and appreciation to Mr Wilks. VISITING COMMITTEE. Messrs Gillman and Pascoe were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month. ACCOUNTS. Accounts totalling £22 were passed for payment. GENERAL. The committee expressed the wish that parents and friends would pay a visit to the school grounds and inspect the work done and various improvements carried out for the betterment of the school and the welfare of the children. — SURGERY WITH A CANDLE.
