OBITUARY.

MR. G. A. AND MISS M. WILSON. The double funeral of the late Mr G. A Wilson and his daughter, Miss M. Wjlson, took place yesterday afternoon and was one of the largest ever seen in the district. Representatives of all classes of the community were present, including a number of intimate friends of the deceased fiom Hunua, Auckland. A short* service was held at the Presbyterian Church, after which the Funeral March was played by Miss Morgan. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. G. A. Morgan. The church was draped by friends of the late Miss Wilson, and beautifu’ floral emblems were received from the friends of the deceased. One particularly fine wreath was supplied by the staff of the Paeroa Engineering Co., of which the late Mr Wilson was a director. The late Mr Wilson was a man of sterling character, whose word was his bond. Deceased was born in Auckland some 60 years ago, and lived the greater part of his life at Hunua, near Auckland, where he took an active part in the local politics of the district. For many years deceased was chairman of the Hunua Road Board. During his long term of office he was instrumental in getting the new direct road from Auckland to Hunua through, cutting out the deviations. The welfare of the children and education matters., were of the first cares of the deceased, and for a number of years he was chairman of the Paparimu School Committee. Some 15 years ago the late Mr Wilson and family came to this district, where be took up a large block of swamp and bush country at Netherton. By sheer hard work and scientific farming the land was soon brought under cultivation. About three years ago a large part of this land was divided into smaller farms a.nd sold by public auction. The deceased very generously gave the land for the formation of a road to these sections which to-day is known as Wilson’s Road. The late Mr Wilson was at. one time a member of the Ohinemuri County Council, and some time ago was appointed a Justice of the Peace, and never failed tp zdischarge his duties impartially and with scrupulous fairness. At the time of his death he was also chairman of the local committee of the Farmers’ Union Trading Company, and also a prominent member of the Hauraki A. and P. Association. In Church matters deceased played a prominent part, and was a member of the management board of the local Presby* terian Church. The deceased leaves a widow, two sons (Messrs G. and R. Wilson), and one daughter (Mrs C. A. Stembridge) to mourn their loss.
