— In our issue of Friday last, in publishing the report on the Hauraki Plains soils, we stated that the report. hJd been prepared by Mr E. W. Hughes, chemist of the N.Z. Co-opera-tive Dairy Co. It should have Head that ,the chemical analysis of the soils was conducted by Mr Hughes. The full report was compiled and supplied to us by Mr H. J. Heighway, of the company’s executive staff.

The Finance Opmipittee reported at last Thursday’s meeting of the Borough Council that during the montn the revenue amounted to £6B 18s lOd and expenditure £3ll 17s lOd. The balance to the credit of the District Fund account at, March 6, 1923, amounted to £1722 19s lid.

An offer was received by the Borough Council last evening from Mr C. P. The sensitiveness of palate developed by cream graders was indicated oy a report presented to a meeting pf dairymen held yesterday under the auspices of the N.Z. Co-pperatjve Dairy Co., Ltd. A supplier stated that he received his docket back from the Paeroa factory with the inscription ‘‘benzine flavour,” and on another occasion with the word The explanation of these two cases was that on one occasion he had washed the strainer with a little benzine in order to clear it of hairs, etc-, and had then thoroughly washed it in water and hung it in 'the sun to dry. In spite of this, however, the subtle flavour of benzine had been communicated to the cream passing through that strainer, and the grader had detected it. On the other occasion he had washed out a bucket with a solution containing about four drops of formalin, and again the grader had picked the action and written "disinfectant.” These points, staited the speaker, satisfied him that the grading was being done effectively.

At the meeting of the Borough Council on Thursday last the action of the building committee in granting a permit to Mr H. I. Spinks to erect loose-boxes and, feed-room in Corbett Street, and Mr E. J. Adi am to erect a motor shed in Corbett Street, was confirmed. The value of the permits granted this month amounted to £ll5.
