WAIHI BEACH ROAD.
THE TOLL-GATE. A MORAL OBLIGATION. At yesterday’s Ohinemuri County Council meeting a letter was received from the Waihi Borough Council which advised that it, had decided not to proceed with the question of a tollgate on the Waihi Beach Road, as it would cost more than the fees received from tolls. The chairman said a toll-gate appeared to be the only method of raising the rates required for the road. It .was an opportunity to make th2 travelling public pay. People went there for pleasure, and should be willing to pay. Or. Morgan said he was sure manv would be willing to pay if a toll-gate were erected. Cr. Corbett said the Waihi Council should carry out its obligations, or ask this county to take full control of the road, when a gate could be erected. Consideration was deferred for one month.
