HAURAKI PLAINS.
ATHLETIC AND SPORTS CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. The third annual meeting of the Hauraki Plains Athletic and Sports Club was held in the Turua Build- | ings, Turua, on Monday last. Mr G. Gray presided over an attendance of about 20 members. RECENT SPORTS. Mr Gray (the president) said that | considering the bad luck the club had I had in regard to the weather for the | sports meeting and the picnics,! and the extra expenditure of about £2O incurred this year, he thought that the club had done very well, As the balance-sheet was incomplete, owing to outstanding accounts, he suggested’ that it should be passed subject to audit. The balance-sheet was read, and after several items had been explained was passed subject to audit. Mr J. Gibson and Mr J. L. Brownlee were appointed auditors. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following officers were elected : President, Mr W. Chapman; vicepresidents, Messrs T. White and G. Porteous ; secretary, Mr J. Gibson; committee, Messrs Gray, Spencer, White, Chapman, Porteous, J. HJohnson, Walker, Davies, Stephens, Olsen, Gibson, Elvin, Goodsell, Hill, and Bennett. BOXING. Mr A. P. Gardiner suggested that the boxing school should be recommenced thjs season. Last year the trouble was to get an instructor, but a local man was available at present. The young men were very enthusiastic. After a short discussion it was decided that the club would support any otuside branch of sport. GUN CLUB. Mr T. White proposed that the Sports Club should take over the management of the Gun Club. ' This was seconded by Mr Jensen and carried. The present sports committee is practically the whole of the members of the Gun Club. RECREATION RESERVE. NTr Gray, stated that the old committee had donated £lO towards improving the reserve, and the Town Board and the Football Club had donated a similar amount. This £3O
would be sufficient to complete the job, with the exception of the fencing, but Mr Bagnall would do that. The committee’s action in voting £lO was approved of. Mr Gardiner proposed that Mr Bagnall be asked t,o put a gate into the reserve from Raupaiti Street. OFFICERS THANKED. Mr Gardiner moved that the retiring president and the secretary should be thanked for the manner in which they had conducted the business of the club. The motion was carried by prolong- | ed applause. The general meeting then closed and the committee met, Mr Porteous taking the chair. DANCE COMMITTEE. Messrs Goodsell, Bennett, Spencer, Johnson, Davies, Walker,. Gray, Gibson, White, and Stephens were elected a dance committee. Mr A. Walker was appointed secretary. It was decided that Mr Schmidt should be asked to .take charge of the weekly dancing classes, and .to be M.C. of the monthly dances. Classes will not be held during the week that the monthly dance is held. The dances will be held on the Wednesday before the full moon, commencing on March 28.
It was decided to have a picnic for the lady members on March 31.
