Speaking of the growth of Whangarei, Mr K. R. MacDonald, a resident, who formerly lived in Gisborne, told a Gisborne “Times” reporter that it was a town which had continued steadily to march ahead. It had never experienced anything in the nature of a boom, and its history showed no trace of a setback. Whilst the shipping hold-up was in progress its adverse effects were felt to some extent. But Whangarei had not been involved in the general slump which had swept over the Dominion.
