"AUSTRALASIA.”

SEEKING A NEW TERM. In pursuance of the campaign in New. Zealand against the use of the word “Australasia,’’ a letter was read at the recent congress of the Australasian Association Tor the Advancement of Science, from the L'nder-Sec-retary of Internal Affairs, suggesting that consideration should be given to the advisability of changing the word “Australasian” to “Australia and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science.” The letter was forwarded at the suggestion of the Government Office, in ac- ' cordance with the sympathetic consideration of the Government with •the desire of the chambers of commerce and other organisations in New Zealand that the .term should be discouraged. The local branch of the association has now intimated to the authorities that the matter is to be considered at the next meeting of the association, and' that in the meantime, a committee has been appointed to consider and report as to a suitable term.
