THE HARBOR LOAN.
AN OPEN MIND. CONSIDERATION DEFERRED. The loan of £60,000 which the Thames Harbour Board proposed to raise was briefly considered at last evening’s Paeroa Chamber of Commerce meeting. The president said that under that Paeroa'would be liable to a rate, if one was struck. If there was a benefit to the district, either direct or indirect, he did not know that it would be well to oppose it. He considered that it would, perhaps, be best to hear what the chairman of the Harbour Board had to say before deciding what action to take. Mr Leach also considered that it would be best to defer action. Th© president said that. Matamatn was already organising opposition. At the present time, however, he thought it. would be best to keep an open mind on .the subject,, and hear what the Board’s representatives had to s’ay before forming an opinion. Mr Leach said no harm could he done by hearing the arguments if the Thames people. On the motion of the president consideration was deferred till a later date.
