"PAEROA JUNCTION.”

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Though I was resident in Paeroa for only a comparatively short, period, I did my level best during that time to assist in the progress bf the town and district, "with especial reference to tire Hauraki Plains. And I still scan the “Gazette” closely three times a week, and take a keen interest in all the progressive mpvements afoot. It was therefore with particular pleasure that I noted the ve"y excellent suggestion made by JT. Brown, that the word “Junction” should be added to the home. The reasons set forth for the adoption o,f the extension to the nomenclature of the place were altogether admirable, and I must not become guilty of repetition by enumerating them further herein.

There is just, one line of argument, however, which, if used, escaped my notice, and that is this : the Railway Department will be absolutely compelled by force of actual fact and correct description to call Paeroa “Paeroa Junction” as soon as* the linking up of the East. Coast line with Paeroa comes near to fruition. Moreover, the place will be called “Paeroa Junction” by the general public irrespective of what officialdom may do. So why not just accept the obvious right away and have the desired and allembracing addition made ? Readers of the “Gazette” may recall that the headlines to a number of special reports appearing at intervals during the past year contained the, words “Paeroa Junction.” Journalistically no other combination would have been accurately expressive of the substance of the reports’. At this distance one can write quite dispassionately, and without any regard for petty factions, and I sincerely trust that the Paeroa Borough Council ( and the Chamber of Commerce will have the suggestion in regard to‘the name carried into effect. I. a.m, etc., thos. e. McMillan. Lceston, Canterbury, 15/2/23.
