During last month building permits authorising work to the value of £1406 5s were granted by the Bor-oug'i Council. Yesterday Mr W. Goodfellow, managing director of the N. Z. Dairy Co., Ltd., stated that “ This year the company’s productipn would be well over 21,000 tons of butter.” The following tenders have been accepted by the Thames Hospital Board: Painting the District Homes, J. R. Knight £340 ; erecting store rooms, etc.. C. AV. Potterton £513. In each case the tenders accepted were the lowest received. The senior Health Officer (Mr B. A. Franklin), in his annual report, received at Wednesday’s Thames Hospital Board meeting, stated: “ This Board is to be congratulated on the improvements made in assisting the householders to instal sanitation.” Nurse English, district nurse ac Patetonga, on Wednesday, resignedher position, and the Thames Hospital Board decided to invite applications to fill the vacancy. The cost of living in New Zealand was at a low mark in tihe early forties. Yorkshire ham at 7d. eggs at lOd. and a 21b. loaf of bread 4d provided a cheap and wholesome breakfast in 1844. Sporting and Dramatic Review” one can readily understand its popular hold on a discerning public. It abounds in illustrations of a high order, guaranteed to strike the tastes of al. 1 sections of the community, and it is an excellent medium for sounding a note of friendliness overseas. Occupying considerable space with ■striking snapshots are the Gisborne Racing Club’s meeting and the Egmont . races. The New Zealand swimming associations championship meeting at Timaru is represented in an effective series of groups of competitors. The Mahawatu Motor Club’s motor-cycle race at Awapuni is covered in a graphic series of photographs showing the field in various events.
