TURUA TOWN BOARD.

9 MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of t'he Turin Town Board was heli] on Wednesday. Present: Messrs! J. Bennett (chaiiman), F. Olsen, k. P. Gardiner, A- C. Scott, J. Mules. C. A-ns’ford, J. T. Davies, and the clerk (Mr J. E. Green). HAURAKI ROAD. Tlie Works Committee reported that a puntload of metal had been put hi the worst holes on Hauraki Road. Mr J. Mules queried the wisdom of buying Puriri metal, as there was a. large quantity of sand and inferior metal included. The chairman explained that when the Puriri metal was purchased no other was available. FINANCIAL STATEMENT. A financial statement, from the formation of the Board to date showed : Rates levied £217, rates collected £7s 12s 6d, rates outstanding £l3B 7s 6d. Expenditure : General expenses £l7 9s 6d, election £24 10s 2d, administration £35 13s 6d, works £6B 12s Id; total, £146 5s 3d. Estimated liabilities, £l5 12s. STRAYING CATTLE. After considerable discussion on tue menace of straying stock, and the expense incurred when Leasts geinto the drains, it was decided that the Board should cooperate with the Drainage Board in the appointment of a ranger, as suggested by the latter. It was stated that the Drainage Board would pay 2s 6d if the Town Board would do the same. The rangewould therefore receive 5s for every beast impounded. This would encourage him to properly carry out his work and stock-owners would take care that their cattle did not wander on the roads. The expense to . the local bodies would be considerably reduced by this arrangement. An account for £2 for removing a beast from a drain was passed for payment on the, motion of Mr J. Mules, seconded by Mr C. Scott. RIDING ON FOOTPATHS. On the motion of Mr A. P. Gardiner it was deieded that a notice should be posted up stating that any person riding on the footpath was liable to be prosecuted. SPORTS GROUND. Mr Bennett reported that Mr Bagnall would give the Town Board control of the recreation ground as soon as he could arrange grazing for the holders of the existing grazing rights. Mr Bagnall suggested buying t.wo sections fronting Piako Road to make an entrance to the ground. It was decided to sent a letter of thanks to Mr Bagnall. Mr Gardiner moved that the Sports Club and tlie Football Club be invited to co-operate with the Town Board ih improving the recreation ground. Tlie motion was seconded by Mr F. Olsen and carried. MUNICIPAL ASSOCIATION. Mr Gardiner moved that the Town •Board join the Municipal Corporations Association —Seconded by Mr Mules, and carried. STREET LIGHTING. Mr Gnrdnier moved : “That this Board instruct the Thames Valley Power Board to instal ten 200 c.p. lights where directed in tlie Turua Town Board district in accordance with their quotation, and that this Board levy a special lighting rate of one-third of a penny in the pound on the capital value of the Turua Town Board district to defray the cost of such installation and 'charges for current consumed ; the special lighting rate to be levied as from April 1. 1923.’’ Tlie motion lapsed for want. o,f a seconder, members expressing the opinion, alter some discussion, that the motion should be brought forward at the next meeting.

BRIDGES. Mr Scott moved, “That the County Council be asked if they would be good enough to allow the Board to make use of timber taken out of tlie old bridges in the Town Board aica for the purpose of joining up footpaths at the cheese factory.” Mr Olsen seconded the motion, \Vliich was carried unanimously.
