Tlie late fee for posting letters on trains and in boxes on steamers is still twopence. The Waikato executive of the Dairy Farmers' Union is protesting to the Government against the importation or manufacture of margarine. Between 400 and 500 people on Saturday attended the official opening of the Hikutaia Bowling, Tennis, and Croquet Club’s ground. It. is estimated that the elephant given by Mr John Court .to the Auckland Zoological Gardens will cost £450 by the time it' is landed in New Zea land. The N.Z. Dairy Farmers’ Union is collecting information concerning particulars of abandoned farms available for evicted dairymen. Mr W. H. Blakeway. local secretary of the N.Z. Co-operative Dairy Co., -advises that there is an advance of one penny per lb for butter-fat supplied during January. The following prices per lb will be paid out on the 20th inst. : Superfine, Is 3d ; first grade, Is l%d ; cheese, Is sd. At Friday’s meeting of the Thames Valley Jersey Breeders’ Club Mr G. Buchanan •suggested that the N.Z. Dairy Co. might, be willing to allow the club the use of its' board room for meetings. They could then probably have a rail put around the room on which to hang photographs. He promised to place the matter before the company at its next, meeting. At Saturday night’s meeting of the Paeroa District High School Committee Mr Redfern tendered his resignation from that body owing to his transfer to Auckland.' In accepting the resignation, Mr H. Taylor (chairman) said he did so with regret. Mr Redfern had been a keen and enthusiastic member of the committee, and had at all times done his utmost to further the interests of the children. Moreover, he had been a loyal worker on the committee for a long time. He wished Mr Redfern every success and prosperity in his new sphere, and trusted that he would be a-B'equent visitor to Paeroa. The headmaster also spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr Redfern’s services. Mr Redfern and family leave for Auckland on Thursday. At the Thames Valley Jersev Breeders’ Club’s meeting on Friday a letter was received from the parent body stating that owing to ill-health Mr H. E. B. Watson had resigned the position of official demonstrator for the association, and would, therefore, be unable to visit the district foi‘ demonstration purposes. On the motion of the chairman the club ex ■ pressed its regret, that Mr Watson was unable to continue his services to the' association, and decided to write expressing approval of liis’greii; work done for the breed. ' A branch of the Dairy Farmers’ Union has passed the following resolution: “That the uplifting of the moratorium in 1924 will have a detrimental effect on a large body, of dairy farmers.” Nothing is surer.
