FIRE AT NGATEA.
BAKEHOUSE DESTROYED. OWNER’S BIG LOSS. A bakehouse belonging to Mi; W. A. Montgomery, of Ngatea, was completely destroyed by fire shortly after 1 o'clock on Tuesday morning. When noticed the fire had a firm hold, and nothing except t,wo carts could be saved. By strenuous efforts Mr Montgomery’s residence, which is Jess than ten yards from -the bakehouse. was kept wet, and thereby saved. The origin of the fire is a mystery. Mr Montgomery stated that there was no fire in the furnace when he retired to bed shortly after 10 o’clock. The loss will be considerable, as the building was insured for only £lOO. There was no insurance on .the stock, and over five weeks’ supply offlour stored in the bakehouse was destroyed.
