THE NEW RATES. OPERATE NEXT WEEK. On Thursday, February 1, the reduced postal 'rates which the Post-master-General announced -in December will come rinto force. Letters will be delivered for l%d„ and newspapers for %d each. Telegraphic charges will also come down. The new scale will be as follows :— Letters, l%d for first. 2oz ; Id for each: succeeding 2oz. Post-cards, single,,ld; reply 2d. Inland packets', Id for first. 2pz; l%d foil’ over 2oz up to 4bz; l%d for each additional 4oz up to Hb ; and 2d each additional lib up to 51b. Newspapers, %d each. Telegrams (ordinary),, 9d for 12 words ; Id each additional word. Telegrams (urgent), Is 6d .for 12 words ; 2d for each additional word. Telegrams (night-letter), 9d for 27 words ; Id each additional 3 words or fraction thereof.
