Mr 'C. W. Carveir, Clerk of the Court a.t. Paeroa, has received notice of his transfer to Hokitika, Mr P. H/ Wylde, of Taihape, having been appointed <to Paeroa. Mr E. V. McLoughlin, of Auckland, is relieving manager at the Paeroa branch of the Northern Steamship Co. during the absence of Mr J. W. Silcock on holiday leave. Mr Richard Burke, who died at his residence, Mount Albert, at the age of 79 years, had spent the greater part of his life in New Zealand. Mr Burka arrived in Auckland when a child, in 1848, and resided for some years at Panmure. Later in life he went to .take charge of the Royal Hotel at Hamilton East, and subsequently had the Ohaupp Hotel. This he gave up to go on the land, and 'had farms at Ngaroto, Waihou, and Matamata. He retired eight years ago and went* to Auckland to spend the evening off his days. Sir Robert Stout resigned tlle chancellorship of .the Otago University on Monday, after successfully conducting the affairs of; the University for a period of 20 years, and was succeeded by Professor MacMillan Brown, of Canterbury. In accepting Sir Robert’s resignation, the Senate recorded its deep sense of obligation to him, and appreciation of having had the services of a man of such high ideals to shape the growth and development of the University during its period of great expansion.

Mr George George, F.1.C., F.C.S., M.R.5.A.N.1., Assoc. M.V.T.S., late head of: tlie Sddon Memorial College in Auckland, has received what is a unique newspaper appointment for Australasia He has been appointed Technical Adviser, or Editor, on the Sydney "Daily Telegraph.”
