• —-— SATURDAY RETAINED. zi COUNCIL UNANIMOUS. 1 Aspecial meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council was held last evening for the purpose of fixing (he day for the statutory half-holiday. Present : The Mayor (Mr P. E. Brenan), Crs. Edwin Edwards, W. Bain, F. E. . Flatt, J. W. Silcock, W. Marshall, and D. Leach. Cr. Flat.t said the people seemed to be satisfied with the present position, and he would move that the present half holiday, Saturday, be retained. Cr. Leach endorsed the previous speaker'-.; remarks, and said it appeared that the business men and tlheir employees were in favour of Saturday. • As, therefore, there were no petitions against. Saturday being retained, he would second the motion. His Worship said he proposed to support the Saturday because they had observed it for tlhe past six yeafs, and as far as' he was able to ascertain that day suited the convenience Of the business people and their staffs. The motion had his support, especially as there were no petitions against tlie Saturday half-holiday. The motion, worded in the stereotyped way, was then put to the meeting and unanimously carried.
