Mr J. W. Graves, of Takapuna, and formerly of Paeroa, paid a flying visit to Paeroa this morning. Florence Halligan and Frances Walden, of Paeroa, obtained partial passes at the recent matriculation examinations. Master Allan North, of Paeroa, who recently passed 'his matriculation examination, is only 14 years of age. Fow boys of this age achieve such success. Mr A. Burgess, accountant at the Thames Post Office, who retired on Friday after 35 years’ service, was ,met by the staff and presented with a travelling rug as a token of their esteem. ; • . Mr J. Mac Leah Dun, one of the proofreaders on the “Christchurch Star,” has just celebrated his eightyeighth birthday. He commenced his pournalistic career on the “Montrose Review” in 1848. ? The Rev. F. McDonald, now of Foxton, was in Paeroa last week, renewing bld acquaintances. Mr McDonald) who was a.t one time a resident of Paeroa,, and a member of the Paeroa Borough Council, told a “Gazette” reporter that he was agreeably surprised at the steady progress the town had made since he left.. The Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout), Under-Secretary of Justice and Controller-General of Prisons (Mr C. E. Matthews), Inspector-General of Mental Hospital® (Mr J. F. S. Hay). Sir Geo. Fenwick (Dunedin), Messrs G. C. B. Jordan (Tauranga), E. Hall (Onehunga), and W. Reece (Christchurch.) have been reappointed members of the Prisons Board.
