FIRE AT WHAREPOA.
CHEESE FACTORY DESTROYED* HEAVY LOSS TO DISTRICT. The local 'secretary of the N.Z. Cooperative Dairy Co., Ltd., received advice that their cheese factory at Whareppa was destroyed by fire last night. The origin of the outbreak is thought to have been caused by spontaneous combustion, as there were some 60 tons of coal stored in the bunkers and 20 tons jus,t outside. Nothing was saved in the factory other that 75 crates of cheese which were in the drying room ready for export. The exact amount of the insurances is not known at present, but it is believed 'that the building and plant were adequately covered. Some 31 suppliers .to this factory will be affected by the fire, but the company has made arrangements for their supplies to be railed tp Hikutaia factory. The loss to the company will be a serious one, as at this time of the year the factories are all working at high pressure to cope with the flush of the season.
