NGATEA. I ELECTRIC POWER. j It is expected 'that the Thames i Valley Electric Power Board will ! have a cable put across the Piako River at Ngatea this week, and an endeavour is being made to have the power switched on at the factory by Christmas. This is welcome news, as it will not be long now before the farmers in the vicinity will be able to avail themselves of the assistance the magic "juice” will afford. SCHOOLMASTER’S RESIDENCE. The Education Board’s building foreman was in Ngatea yesterday and inspected the residence being erected for the headmaster of the local school. The foreman expressed himself as well pleased with the workmanship and the progress being niade.
The residence is of neat design, and when finished shall be a comfortable home. The front door leading from the verandah opens intp a hall, on the right of which is a bedroom, 12ft. x 13ft, with windows looking out to the fipnt and side. Two addition,al bedrooms 12ft x 9ft. 6in. are also provided, and on the opposite side of the hall there is first a parlour 12ft. x 12ft:, and a commodiuos living room 17ft. x 12ft. with range, cupboards, and other conveniences. Adjoining the living room is a large scullery, with a bathroom and pantry leading cff. The wash house and coal shed are separate from the house. The water supply will come from three tanks at the rear of the house and one at the wash house. The house, is on concrete foundatipn blocks. SCHOOL EXTENSIONS.
The Education Board’s foreman, while at Ngatea on Tuesday, said, in the course of conversation, that the plans for providing extensions to the present school and for the provision of a high school room, were now well in hand The work would be commenced early in'the new year. The plans will provide for the additions to be made to the south Side of the school for Christmas with corridors to suit. It may be possible that for a shoit time after the school opens; in February, the high school class room may not be complete. It will, therefore, be necessary for the School committee tp make arrangements to hold the secondary school classes in another building. The public hall would perhaps be the most suitable place. MAORI CONCERT. Ngatimaru Maori entertainers gave a splendid concert programme before a large audience in the Ngatea Public Hall on Tuesday evening. The funds are tp be devoted towards repairing the meeting house at Parawai.
