A meeting of the Hauraki Plains Veterinary Club was to have been held at Turua on Monday to make arrangements for the future of the association, but owing tp continuously heavy rain very few members attended. and the meeting lapsed for want of'a quorum. DAIRYING. Supplies to the Hauraki Plains DairY Company's factory at Turua "continue to show a marked inciease over’ the supplies' during a corresponding period last year. Yesterday over 300 crates ofcheese, as well as a quantity of butter, were shipped from the local factory, while 130 crates went from the N.Z. Co-'opera- • tivc Dairy Co.’s Huirau Road factory. SPORTS GATHERING. Careful preparations are being made by the Hauraki Plains Athletic and Sports Club for the annual sports ' gathering on January 27. The lasi two annual gatherings' have been outstanding successes, and it is the club’s endeavour to make the coming event still a better and.mprc poplar function. The energetic committee, with) Mr J. A. Bennett as its secretary, has arrangements well in hand. The club is also holding its annual picnic on New Year's Day. TOWN SECTIONS:. Messrs/ Bagnall Bros’, .block of town is now being extensively roaded. The roads.-are now receiving a of metal, Mattai Street being ■ the one at, present receiving most attention, while another is being graded and prepared- for metalling. The future of Turua as a large township certainly looks bright, especially as quite a number of the sections in this block’ have already been taken. A NEW SHOP. .Another addition to Turua’s' business' premises is a new shop, an extension to the bakery business occuplying the old Bank of New Zealand premises in Bagnall Bros’, building. • THE -FERRY ROAD. The road from Orongo to Turua is badly in need, of metal, especially as it is now the main road from the Hauraki. Plains to Thames and has to bear heavy daily traffic. In, the wet weather it is particularly greasy and hinders traffic considerably. ' SOCIAL EVENING. A concert and social evening was held in the Victoria Hall on Wednesday evening, the funds derived being devoted to the Presbyterian . Ladies’ Guild A very enjoyable musical programme was rendered by local talent, and a very pleasant evening was spent. Refreshments were served l>y the ladies.
