TURUA’S ROAD SCHEME.
SOUTH AREA SANCTIONS., LOAN. A poll was held in the southern ' area of the Turua district dft Monday to sanction the raising of a loan £19,‘500 for the purpose of laying down tar macadam roads, and the voting resulted as follows : For, the proposal. 40 Against the proposal — 7 v Majority for proposal 33 ’ The polling was by no ineans heavy, only 47 votes out of a total of 79. being cast. ItJtyill ,be remembered that at the beginning of the year proposals to grant the expenditure of £36,000 oli. tar macadam Toads over the southern, - northern, and town areas was turned down; the vote of tne, townspeople being the main factor, jn tire dqfeat of the proposals. The southern area since decided to attempt to raise a -loan of its own, hence Monday’s poll- . The town airea is now also contemplating going in ftn; a separate Joan, t|he proposals for which may soon be put before the ratepayers. It is evident, therefore, that it will not be long before TuTua’s notoriety for, bad roads will be changed to fame for permanent, smooth surfaces. 'DETAILS OF EXPENDITURE. In connection with Monday's poll ths'following details the expenditure authorised by the carrying of t,he loan proposals:— Turuai-Netherton Road from Turua town \District to Troughton’s, £7440. “Wharepoa-Kerepeehi Road fpr 40 chains towards Kerepeehi, £1,165. Orchard East Road from TuruaNotherton Road to Lands* Department boundary, £2270. Htairau Road, to Newman’s Road corner, £2,395 ; from Newman’s comer to Sutton’s boundary, £1,790. >’Newman's Road, £1,980. Contingencies, £B6O. Preliminary expenses and interest on sinking fjund for first year amount to £1,600.
