OBITUARY
MB. ALFRED BDWIN FIELDED. The sad news of MT. Alfred Fielder's death will be received in this district by the large circle of his friends with much regret. The deceased, who was 54 years of age, had been a resident of Paeroa for the last 26 yeairs, and during the whole of tliat time gave great assistance to all forms of sport and public matters. For many years he was a steward- on the Ohinemuri Jockey Club. On the football field he has refereed for many years, and with Mr W. Moore was the examiner for the Referees’ Association. He has also been selector, for football teams, and few had a keeener eye or better judgment than he as to the merits of a player. He w,as also president and sole selector ofi the Paeroa Cricket Club for the last two seasons', and was again elected this iseason. He has been associated with every form of sport, and at sports gatherings always took a responsible part. As a membetr and official of the Hauraki Agricultural and Pastoral Association he haS always taken an active part in the working of the show, and was keenly interested in horticulture and poultry, these two lines being particular hobbies with him, as m visit to his home indicates. He was one of the first to actively work for the inauguration of the Borough, and served on both: the first and second councils, and always; carried out the work allotted 'to him in a thorough and practical m.anner. He was employed by Mr Jones, s.addldr, for many years as manager of his Paeroa branch, and for some time held the same position under Mr D. A. Vincent. Just recently he .launched out in business on his own account, but. was taken with bad Health and gradually sank. In his social life he was a: very staunch supportar of Druidism and passed through the various chairs and degrees of that order. Quite recently he was made a riiember of Lodge Ohinemuri No. 107. He was of a kindly disposition, and made a host of friends, who will miss his familiar figure. He leaves a wife to mourn his loss's. The funeral took place yesterday, the servjce-4>eing conducted by the Rev. F. B. Dobson. _ The last sad rites of the Masonic Order, and also those of the Druids were given at the graveside in the presence of a large number s ofi brethren and citizens who attended to pay their last respects l to a man well honoured.
