KOPU FERRY.
REVISION OF CHARGES. A discussion in connection with tihe Kopu Ferry was opened at Wednesday’s meeting of the Thames County Council, a letter being read from the Thames Chamber Of Commerce which drew attention to the necessity of; signalling the Kopu ferry from the western side and the erection of! a signboard .at the turn off from the Kopu Road. The clerk said these matters had already received attention. The chairman reporting on his’ recent conference with the Hauraki Plains County chairman in connection with the Kopu ferry said, there was no doubt that the ferry and motor services were proving that the crossings over the Waihou River were essential. The Kopu Ferry traffic was continually increasing, and with the present takings the ferry would, pay its way. Cr. Brunton said the settlers in his district would oppose any suggestion to close the Wharepoa ferry, which was handy for the Plains people to get to the railway. Cr. McCormick did not think tine Thames-Ngatea bus was paying enough for ferry dues on the Kopu ferry. The bus passengers paid nothing and the bus was using the ferry for practically npthing. It was decided to revise all charges.
