DANCE RECITAL.

(Special Cambridge Correspondent.) In spite of inclement weather a large audience assembled at, the Town Hall, Cambridge, on Thursday evening last to witness the dance recital submitted by the pupils of the Misses Chare Smales and Myra Hart. The stage was gorgeously hung with silken draperies in various shades of rich brown, with coloured lighting effects, while during the overture a “jazz flicker” in colours was thrown on the stage, making a rich combination of Eastern colouring,. It would be invidious to single out any particular pupil for special praise, but the performers in every instance clearly showed what degree of efficiency can be attained by painstaking teachers, even when tire ages of pupils r.ange from as low as four years ; and some of the unrehearsed 'effects of the tiny tots' when being presented with, bouquets and boxes of chocolates caused rounds of applause. In order to avoid any delays in between items songs were rendered by the Misses Myra Ross and Jessie Richards, while Mr Lightwalk submitted vpilin solos’, each er being recalled in no uncertain manner. Special praise is due to Miss F. Mitchell and Mr Alf. Bpyce, whose artistic playing contributed ip a very great measure to the success of the dancers, while Mr L. Morfin eclipsed all previous efforts ,in the matter of stage setting anil lighting effects.

No time was lost in between items’, which followed one another in rapid succession, the -whois p”bgramme of 81 items being brought to a conclusion at i0i.15 p.m.

Very great credit is due to the principals for thh magnificent display, as nothing of the kind on such, a lavish scale has ever been attempted previously in Cambridge, the dresses of performers being particularly gorgeous, and making together a brilliant Combination of colour.' Miss Clare Smales’ Te Arbha recital takes place on Thursday, December 14, due notice of which will appear shortly in our advertising columns.
