PAEROA DRAINAGE.
SPECIAL MEETING. OF COUNCIL.
SCHEME DISCUSSED. ' A special* meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council was held on the 27th ultimo to discuss' the present sewerage scheme for the borough. His Worship the Mayor, Mr P. E. Brenan, presided over the Milowing. Councillors Edwards, x Marshall, Bain, Silcock, Lamb, Flatt, and Vuglai. An apology for absence was received on behalf of Cr. Leach. The engineers, Messrs' Gannon and Worley, were also in attendance by request.
The Council and engineers proceeded to inspect the No. 4 area, which it is proposed to drain. On returning to the Borough Chambers, after due discussion it was proposed by Cr. Marshall and seconded by Cr. Edwards "That, the engineers be instructed to prepare plans and estimates of the amended scheme, as outlined during the tour o f inspection, and that the Council urge that thjs work be completed as early as possible.” The motion was carried, His Worship stating that though he was wot against the resolution he doubted whether it was the best course to adopt, as he considered the sum authorised to be raised for seweiage would be exhausted before the lowlying areas’ could be drained, and he doubted whether those areas would therefore be ever drained.
CORBETT AND SETH STREETS. The engineers advised that the sum of £9OO would link up the Corbett Street area with the scheme already completed, and £6OO would complete the Seth Street area.
The matter of the engineers acting as inspectors of works for these paiticular areas was also discussed at some length, and it was resolved, on the motion of Cr. Marshall, seconded by the Mayor, “ That the engineers be instructed to prepare plans and estimates of these areas, subject to the engineers undertaking the inspector’s work at a cost of not more than 1% per cent, on the work.” The engineers stated that they were prepared- to undertake the inspector's work on future contracts at per cent.
After discussion the Council resolved to consider the offer.
