PAEROA-POKENO RAILWAY'

SPENDING THE £5,000 GRANT.

REQUEST TO THE' MINISTER.

Consideration of the proposed Paeroa-Pokeno railway was introduced at. the Hauraki Plains County Council meeting on Monday, by the reading of a letter from the Auckland Railways and Development League, which wrote in connection with making an effort to get £5OOO voted for the Paeroa-Pokeno section of the line siient before the vote lapsed next March-. The league was endeavouring to get the. links closed from Tauranga to Waihi, when, to save the congestion at Frankton Junction, the Paeroa-Pokeno connection must be made.

Or, Chatfield moved, and Cr. Hayward seconded, that the clerk write to the Minister for Public Works asking that the £5OOO on the Estimates be expended on the Paeroa-Pokeno railway.

The chairman (Cr J. C. Miller) : I would like ■to see it thundering through as quickly as they can, Cr, Hayward : It's a thing we can’t push too hard. It was decided to advise the League of the action taken.
