HAURAKI PLAINS COUNTY

ELECTION OF COUNCILLOR.

MR. H. HARE SUCCESSFUL. Mr H. Hare was on Monday elected a councillor to the Hauraki Plains County Council. The election was a result of the resignation of Mr G. Death as a Netherton riding representative. The voting was as follows: H. Hare — — — 105 P. R. Henry — — 64 V. Young — — — 39 The total number of votes polled was 208 and the number, on the roll 304, oif which 60 were absentees. The voting was therefore heavy, shewing that a keen interest was taken in the poll. There were three booths, one at the Netherton Hall, one at the Kerepeehi Hall, and the third at Mr Troughtpn’s residence. At the Netherton Hall the successful candidate ■secured the majority of his votes. Mr Henry polled well at the other two booths. The folowing shows the distribution of votes at the various booths:

Netliterton HaiU. Hare — — — — 94 Henry — -- — 13 Young — — — 27 Kerepeeilii BalJ. Hare __ — — — 6 Henry — -- — 23 Young — -- — 3 Mr. Troughtvn’s Hpuw. ’ Hare — — — — 5 Henry — — —- 28 Young — — — 9 It is a matter fpr congratulations to sec a local man top the poll by an absolute majority of two. Mr Hare put up a very creditable performance by polling more than one-third of the possible number of votes on the roll. It is interesting to note the very solid vote Mr. Hare received in his own centre at Netherton, where possibly the, feeling on road apd bridging matters is felt the keener. Mr Hare, an enterprising Paeroa business man, holding a seat on the Hauraki Plains County Council, is one who will at all times foster and preserve the interests of the ratepayers, and also see that the roads' leading to Paeroa will be put intp such condition that will make it an easy matter for. the settlers to shop in the town which is the Plains natural centre;, namely, Paeroa .
