PERSONAL.
At the County Council meeting yesterday, a vote of condolence was passed to Mr R. W. Evans, County Clerk, in the Ipss of his brother at Christchurch’ recently.
Major C. Andrews, 0,8. E., N.Z.S.C,, left yesterday for a tour pf inspection of the defence area under his jurisdiction as commander Qf No. 2 Group, Paeroa. The tour embraces Rotorua, overland to Gisborne. Major Apdrews is accompanied by Mrs Andrews, and expects to be absent for about three weeks.
The General Manager for Railways, Mr R. W. McVilly, and three of the chief executive officers of the Railway Department, arrived by a special train in Paeroa yesterday forenoon, and after inspecting the local station, conferred with Mr J. J. Rowe, station- -
master, apd afterwards proceeded to Waihi, and then oh to TezAroha.
