DRAINING WORKS.

HAURAKI DRAINAGE BOARD. THE MONTHLY MEETING. The Hauraki Drainage Board met at Turua oh Friday, there being present Messrs G. Gray (chairman), J. Mules, R. H. Heappey, R.- Baker, DG. McMillan, and J, E. Green (clerk). Four cases were reported of serious damage being done to drains by. pigs. Tlie clerk was authorised to communicate with the settlers io whom the pigs belong and hold them liable for the damage done. Messrs Bryan and Walker were appointed solicitors' ,tp the Board. Thle clerk was instructed to inform! the Government engineer that the four toot flood-gate made by Mr Onion was suitable tor installing in No. 2 Te Kauri outlet, that the work would cost approximately £so', and request the Lands Department tp pay half the post.

The Board, -having fully considered the question of a portion of the O.R.P. land being handed over by the Lands Department to the County ‘ Council and a continuance of the drainage operations therein, so far. as it. affected the joint drains between thle Board and the Lands. Department, it was resolved that it be a recommendation to a new board coming into authority after November 6, that if any negotiations are entered into in any way to take in O.R.P. country into this board’s area, same should be put to the ratepayers of the board' before the board came to any definite decision in the matter. SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting of the Board was held on Saturday morning, when there was confirmed a resolution creating a special order that the Board fix the number of trustees to be elected for each subdivision at one trustee for each of .the following areas : Northern, Turua, Central, Te Kauri, and Monganui areas. Nominations for the board’s election close to-day. The election is ,tb b<? held next Monday.
