The latest sensation in Haiwke's Bay comes from Daniievirke. During an effort to raise funds for the Soldiers’ Memorial (relates the local “News”) a borough councillor was seen being conveyed through the main street in a wheelbarrow. Naturally many persons formed quite a wrong idea, of the cause of the event, and all enjoyed a hearty laugh. It later transpired that a bet had been made that the person in question would not agree'to the grand tour of the town. The stake was a£l donation fbn the memorial fund, and the borough councillor decided that th® sacrifice was worth it.
