“Goitre is very common in Masterton,” said Dr. Eleanor S. Baker, relieving school medical officer, to an “Age” representative when commenting on her inspection of the local schools. “Mastertpn is distinctly, a goitre centre; the malady is more prevalent than I expected. Chiefly girls are affected, but boys also have the complaint, and I think ; it quite worth while to try the prophylactic treatment.” This consisted of giving very minute doses of anything containing iodine, continued the doctor. A great deal of good Had been done in this way in Canterbury, though the results were not as wonderful .ts those claimed in America and Switzerland.
