SOCIAL EVENING.

HAURAKI A. AND P. ASSOCIATION. An Friday evening Ja?t, at the Soldiers’ Club, the above association ten- 4 dered a social evening to the ladies who have helped the association on various occasions. The hall was very prettily decorated with Large palms anti lycopodium together with arum lilies and ferns, giving the hall a delightfully restful bower Mr W. F. Johnstone, on behalfl of the show officials, briefly explained that the object in holding the social was to publicly thank the ladies who had helped and to express the appreciation of the executive for the generous and untiring assistance the ladies had given them during the last few years.,

A euchre tournament was held under the direction of Mr J. W. Silcock, and after some exciting games had been fought out Mrs P. Hague-S'mitfi was declared the winner of the ladies' prize and was awarded a handsome Doulton salad bowl, donated by Mr J. A. Reid whilst the winner of the men’s prize was Mr W. Marsh, wno received a silver electric torch, donated by Mr P. R. Hubbard. A most enjoyable musical programme w r as then submitted, and songs were contributed by Mrs P. Hague (Smith'. Messrs G. and L. Foster, P. C. Furley, and E. Edwards, each item being deservedly encored. Mrs Hague-Smith and Mr L. Foster acted as accompanists. After the music the card-tables were moved away and the floor cleared for dancing, the music being supplied by Mesdames W. K. McLean, P. Hague Smith Miss E. Houlihan, and Messrs R. Flatt and L. Foster. The floor was in tip-top order, and this, combined with the first-class music, enabled one and all to thoroughly enjoy themselves. The refreshments arrangements w r ere left in the capable hands of Mr T. H. Hale who provided a most delicious supper. The evening came to a conclusion only too quickly, and the ladies expressed themselves in very eulogistic terms to the association for providing such a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
