PASTORAL LANDS.
HAURAKI DISTRICT. PAYMENT FOR ACCESS. At Wednesday’s meeting of the Thames County Council a letter! was read from the Coromandel County Council , asking for ,the Thames Council’s co-operation in refusing tp contribute towards tihe cost of giving ac cess to the Pastoral Lands. Cr Faithfull moved that the Council support the Coromandel County. The chairman (Cr. H. Lowe) said that before roads were handed over it was the duty of the Crown to put the roads in a formed state. The Government should provide access and load the cost on tp the land. He did not consider tlhat a portion of the rents should g'o to the local bodies/ The various Government department's were apparently centralising and attempting to filch all. claims and privileges previously given to local bodies, of which the timber halves was oneCr. McCormick said the people who took up those lands knew quite well that they were getting no rbads. The chairman said thajt was all the more reason why they should urge the Government to do the rpads. The chairman seconded the motion, which was carried.
