KEREPEEHL HOSPITAL FUNDS. The committee elected to promo'.e the masquerade ball, which it is hoped will considerably augment the hospital site funds, has been making commendable efforts tp make t'he ball a success. Everything has been arranged for the holding of amost successful evening. ROAD METALLING. The road between the Kerepeehi corner and Parry’s corner (Ngatea) is to be metalled the whole of the distance and blinding put pn top of the rough metal. The work is at present in progress. TURUA. NEW HALL. • Enthusiasm is being shown by the Turua Building Company in the proposed erection of a new hall,' wita provision being made for shops.. Plans are at present being prepared in Auckland for the new building, and applications have already been made be prospective tenants for shop accommodation. NGATEA. FACTORY SUPPLY. The figures for last month show that the output from the Ngatea butter factory is nearly as great as fl was during December, the flu&h: of the season last year. Last month a total of 13234 tons of butter was made This is an increase of 60% tons on a corresponding period last year. A new Silkeborge churn, which; arrived a few months ago., is at present being installed. PUHANGA CANAL. The Bucyrus dredge which has been widening and deepening the Piako River between Kaihere Landing and the Puhanga canal is now at the southern end of the canal, which: is the dredge’s objective. The canal is to be widened and deepened. A smaller bucket than that whiejh; is at present used is to be put on the dredge for the work. A temporary bridge- is to be put over the southern end of the canal while the dredge is operating in that vicinity. IMPROVEMENT SOCIETY. A meeting of the Ngatea Mutual .Improvement Society was held on Monday evening. A letter, was received from the secretary of the local hall committee thanking the society for its gift of a copper and stand. A donation of £5 towards the public library funds was passed for payment. It was decided that the next entertainment would take the form of a debate, the subject of which will be “Should the County Council be allowed to build bridges under section 119 of the Public Works Acb? If so, is the Kirikihi bridge essential to the Hauraki Plains?” The date of the debate was not fixed. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. • A meeting ofl the Ngatea School Committee was held in the schoolhouse last evening, the following being present: Messis W. McDuff (chairman), W. J. Clare, E. Walton, W. Clark, and C. W. Shultz (secretary). The committee was advised that the dental nurse would not be available for this district until ithe end of the year. . The headmaster reported that a total of £ll was collected as the result of the recent concert and £lO had been handed to the bazaar funds. Advice was received from the Returning Office of the Thames Electorate that the school would be used as a polling place for the next general election. The headmaster reported that ths average for the past quarter was 84.3. Mr Clare and the secretary were deputed to procure posts and wire for fencing off a new horse paddock. The secretary was instructed to write to the Education Board urging the necessity for additional ground for the school. , ' : . FARMERS? UNION. At the meeting of the Ngatea branch of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union, Mr W. G. Hayward presiding, a letter was read from the secretary pf the N.Z. Dairy Company in. reply to the branch’s request for particulars regarding the acquisition for a recreation reserve of a portion of the company’s property. The letter stated that the matter would be put before the next meeting of directors. Further consideration on the matter of acquiring a suitable recreation ground was reserved till the next meeting. - The desirabi’-ity of paving additions made to the wharf! at Ngatea was pointed out. It was maintained that the wharf should be extended for the convenience pf unloading timber* but nothing definite was done. The secretary announced that there were still on hand a number of booklets concerning pig rearing. Any farmer who desired a copy could have it on application to the secretary. PIPIROA. SCHOOL TEACHER. z A little over a week ago the nameOf Mrs Goldsthorpe was submitted tothe Pipiroa School Committee by. the Education Board as a suitable applicant to fill a vacancy on the teaching staff at the local, school. The school committee has decided to accept the teacher recommended tp it.
