PAEROA-HAMILTON MOTOR SERVICE INAUGURAL RUN. The inaugural run of the motor service which has just been decided upon by the Auckland Star Proprietary took place this morning. It has been decided to run this service between Paeroa and Hamiltion, leaving Paeroa at one o’clock in the afternoon and Hamilton after the arrival of the Auckland-Wellington express •and reaching Paeiloa at about one o’clock in the morning. . The Star will be delivered en route from Ham-, ilton and distributed from the various centres early in the morn’ng, thus reaching its country subscribers, twelve hours earlier. To mark the inauguration of the service a number of residents ami business men were entertained .‘o luncheon at the Criterion Hotel, after which speeches were given by several present. Mr E. W. Porritt, as president of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce, in congratulating the Star on Its enterprise, said he was pleased that Paeroa had at last been recognised as a distributing centre. He hoped the motor service between the two centres, Paeroa and Hamilton, would be a successful one. .. Mr D. Le.ach, as president of the Business Then’s Association, welcomed tiho inauguration of the service. < He. was sure that it would be a great benefit to the town, and the motor service would be th'e means of bringing Paeroa in closer touch with the City. The Star would now be in Paeroa for breakfast time. His Worship the Mayor, Mr P. E. Brenan, in adding his quota of congratulation said that it would undoubtedly be a great convenience to the public, and, he hoped, a profit f.o the Star people. Mr J. L. Hanna said that the service was undoubtedly a move in the right direction for the business men of the town.’ One would now be able to spend the whole day in Auckland, and, leaving by the 7.15 p.m. train, arrive in/Paeroa at 1 a.m. Mr L. X E. Cassrels considered this was the first actual and tangible recognition that Paeroa had received from t’>e metropolitan papers—anyway' of it being a centre. Paeroa was now as it had been in the past, a-dis-tributing centre for the Auckland Star. He congratulated l the proprietors on the enterprise shown, Mr Bauif, in returning thanks on behalf of his- principals, the Brett Printing Company, Ltd., said that he had been for some time trying tp arrange this run. Just before leaving Auckland last night he rang up'Mr Brett who regretted that owing to his advancing years and present state of health he was unable to be present. Mr Btett was on the goldfields in the very early days, and when few white men were there. He hoped to revisit the district shortly, if his health, would permit. Continuing, !he said his firm considered Paeroa was the inlet and also the outlet of the Hauraki plains, and they realised .what a great help this great fertile > region was going to be to Auckland. It was their intention to endeavour tp get a . letter mail delivery, and this would enable Paeroa business men to get their Auckland letters, much earlier. The service had been inaugurated primarily to increase the circulation. What they could do for Paeroa would afford them great pleasure. A photograpihi was afterwards taken of the group outside the hotel.
