A Manawatu resident (states an exchange) has sold £450 worth. o£ cabbages off 354 acres as the result of six, months’ occupation of the . ground, A cruel method by which a stockman dispatched a fox,-terrier was related in the Christchurch Magistrate’s Court before Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M. , (reports the "Sun”). Gordon Mc- ■ Credie was charged with having kill--1 ed a dog in such a manner as to ' cause it unnecessary pain. He pleadled not guilty. Mr W. J. Hunter, for Ithe Society for the Prevention" of ’ Cruelty to Animals, said that two ' small, boys were in South Hagloy | Park, accompanied 'by a fox terrier. ' The dog ran playfully after some sheep. Some men came from the Addington saleyards. The defendant | caught the dbg by the hind legs, kicked it, and bashed its head on the ! ground and against a tree. The de- ' fendant then cut the dog’s throat and threw the body into a drain. The magistrate said that he thought that McCredie lost his temper because the dog snapped at him. It was a very brutal way to kill a dog. Animals must be killed in a humane and decent manner. McCredie would bs fined £5, with costs £4 16s 6d.
