THE NEW FORD CAR.
' ELECTRIC MODEL. We were on Monday shown two Ford cars .which had arrived to the order of the Paeroa Engineering Co., Ltd., for customers in the WaikintT district. These new Fords are the 1922 Model and are a pronounced improvement on former models. The first point to strike one is the handsome stream lines sloping from the dash to the bonnet, which gives the car a decidedly improved appearance, On occupying the driver’s seat one is surprised to find himself sitting over a large steering wheel, similar to those on more powerful cars. The seats in this model are well upholstered in good serviceable leatherette, and the front seat is so designed as to allow more'leg room than in former models. The hood of khaki canvas web is strongly made, padded, and well finished off, with two oval windows of glass hi the rear, replacing the old style mica windows. Side curtains for the back seat are alsb a new departure. The hpod is known as a ‘tone man ” hood, and is screwed on to the wind screen, doing, away wi3i the old fashioned stays on either side of the driver’s seat. . The hood is screwed tightly on to the wind screen, to which added height has been given, and is- adjustable at any angle by means of screws bn the frame of the screen. In the engine itself many improvements have been effected, The electric wiring is of | first-class material throughout,, and the terminals are of better and improved quality than former models. The engine is slightly improved com- . pared to last year’s model, which has . proved to give every satisfaction and j done more than was ever expected of > it. The electric generator on this ■model is driven by timing gears, re- | placing the old belt drive. The Ford ; is exceptionally well sprung, and an j ingenious attachment has been made ; for holding the front springs, greatly : minimising the- risk of broken leaves. The Ford self-starter is of the Bren- ; dix drive pattern and has been scien- j ■tifi eally m,ade and built in to ensure its absolute success and reliability. ’ Demountable rims are fitted, and an , ingenious frame has been attached to the rear of the can enabling a spare wheel to bo c.arried without any risk of its becoming loose and probably lost. The electric lighting system consists of two twojbulb headlights and a . tail light, operated by a com-i bination, lighting and ignition switen
■located on the instrument board. The large bulbs are of 6-,8 volt two candle power type. The small bulb is also used in the tail light. All the lamps are connected in parallel so that the > burning out or removal of any one of 3 them will not affect the other. Th 3 , current for the lighting system is 7 supplied by the battery. The sim- - j plicity of this model and the easiness I with which it is operated renders an ' intimate knowledge of mechanical - technicalities unnecessary for its > operation. It is most necessary, hpw- ' ever, that owners of Ford.- cars should ■ insist upon getting only genuine 1 Ford parts and spares, and these can ’ be obtained from the Paeroa Engin- ' eering Co., who are authorised Ford ■ dealers. Anyone interested or desirous of ■ purchasing a motor car for the coming summer, a car that will give them comfort and pleasure combined with -absolute efficiency and economy, are advised to call and inspect the models now on view at the depot of t'he Paeroa Engineering Co., where competent mechanics will be only too willing to demonstrate. For this new | up-to-date model of Ford, complete 1 with self-starter, electric light, spare detachable rim, etc. the price is only £249. | i . .. ; “ ~..
