VARIETY FAIR.
SALVATION ARMY FUNCTION. In furtherance of their appeal for help in connection with the SelfDenial Fund the local Salvation Army Corps, under the leadership of Captains Davey and Thomas, held a very successful sale of work and variety fair yesterday afternoon and evening. The Salvation Army Hall was tastefully decorated, and the stalls were so arranged as to display their) many, useful and pretty articles to every advantage. The fancy work stall was under the charge of Mrs Brock anl Miss Good ; jumble stall,' Mrs Upderwood ; flower stall, Miss Rickard; sweet stall, the gymnasium girls ; and home produce, Mrs Redfern and Miss McDonald- Brisk business was transacted during the afternoon, and in the evening the hall proved too small to accommodate the people who attended the majority- of whom were only too keen to spend a few shillings, and thereby helping the fund. The distribution of gifts from the large gift-trees which wei e erected on the platform was ah unbounded source of delight to the kiddies especially, and many and varied were the gifts carried away.
