KIRIKIRI BRIDGE.
The Chamber decided that it oppose the erection of a bridge over the Waihou River at Kirikiri on the grounds that it will be an unnecessary obstruction to navigation on the Waihou River, and it was of the opinion that reading was, at the present time, more necessary than bridges for opening up and closer settlement of tihe Hauraki Plains.
NEW POST OFFICE FOR PAEROA. The Chamber decided to place on record its appreciation of the views expressed by the Postmaster-General in the House when he said, "One of thd important undertakings that would have to be proceeded with was the Paeroa post office. The present building was such a miserable structure that he wondered how the staff managed to carry out their duties.”
It was decided to write to the Post-master-General and request him, if possible, to place a sum on tihe Estimates for the erection pfl a new post office during the coming year. MERCHANTS’ DISCOUNTS.
The Chamber decided that the Auckland Chamber of Commerce be requested to approach the Wholesale Merchants’ Association and business firms in Auckland with a view of getting the discount day extended to the 25th of the month, instead of the *2oth. to enable advantage to be taken of cash discounts after the monthly pay-out by the dairy companies on the 21st. of each month-. PEKAPEKA ROAD.
Tt was proposed by Mr Leach, second by Mr W. H. Taylor, "That this Chamber urge upon the Minister for Lands the necessity of finishing that portion of Pekapeka Road leading from Kerepeehi, some thirty chains of which remain to be fpnned. This portion is impassable in winter, and the only outlet is through private property. The settlers are practically cut off from communication with the township of Kerepeehi and the school children suffer great difficulties in their journeys to and from school. The settlers have offered £3O, wlhich amount is considered sufficient to do the necessary clearing. The road has been under the control pf the Lands Department for the past seven years, and in view pf the fact that under £l5O will complete the work the Minister be asked to give the matter his early attention.” TE AROHA BUILDING SOCIETY. With reference to the request from the above society that I’aerba cooperate with them, it was resolved that the president be authorised to confer with the committee appointed, and have power to act on the Qo’mmittee's decision. BOROUGH WATER MAINS.
