PAEROA HIGH SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the above school was held on Saturday eveningThe chairman, Mr W. H. Taylor, presided, and the following committee were present: Messrs Busby, Cane, Garry, Pascoe, Redfern, Veale, and the secretary and. treasurer, Mr W. Lawrence. The headniaster, Mr G. H. Taylor, was also hi attendance. Apologies were tendered on behalf of Messrs E. E. GiMman and W. Power. FINANCE. The school fund account showed a credit balance of £4O. Accounts totalling £6 19s 6d were passed for payment. The headmaster wps authorised to purchase some door-mats and necessary requisites for the school. MANUAL TRAINING SCHOOL. Nothing definite has been done »n this matter since the last meeting. A letter was received from Mr HPoland, M.P., advising that he was interviewing the Minister,for Education again in connection with this matter and would endeavour to get a revised estimate for a new building. There seemed tp he no doubt that the Education Department was holding this matter up, and the committee decided to appeal again tp the Minister and ask him to use his best endeavours to expedite the establishment of. a manual training school in Paeroa, RECENT FIRE IN WOOD STREET. The headmaster reported that there was no insurance on his residence in Wood Street, and supported the committee’s grateful thanks for the prompt and willing help rendered by the Paeroa Fire Brigade in preventing the fire from spreading to the teacher’” residence. With reference to the boundary fence, which was damaged by the fine, it was decided .to apply to the Education Board fo a grant to repair sameCONVEYANCE OF CHILDREN. A letter was -received from T. Grant, Mill Road, claiming payment for conveying children from Tirohia to Paeioa prior to the opening of the Tirohia school. The committee decided to inform Mr Grant that it was not within the province of the committee to deal further with the matter, In view of the fact that the full amount allowed by the’board had been paid out to .Mr E. J. Menzies, for whom Grant was sharemilking, on February 17, 1922, and suggests that if Mr Grant considered he had a claim for payment that the matter be adjusted between Mr Menzies and himself. DENTAL TREATMENT. A circular was read from the director of the Division of Dental Hygiene, Wellington,, advising that, a limited number of dental nurses’ services would be available in the near future, and that it had been decided that school committees who were 1 willing to offer facilities should have pr.ior claim to those services. The facilities referred to were a central room suitable for surgery, transport of nurse and equipment from, rail or boat to location, and the arranging of board and lodging for nurse. On the motion of Mr Garry, seconded by Mr. Busby, it was resolved: “That this committee is willing, to provide the facilities and finance the board and lodging of the nurse, and that a letter be sent tp the Director of Dental Services recognising that Paeroa and Tirohia schools be included in the itinerary ofl the nurses.” DRINKING FOUNTAINS. A plan and specifications for the installation of drinking bubble fountains were received from. Messrs Boland and Gamage, of Napier. It was resolved that two of these fountains be purchased for the Paeroa school, subject to the approval of Mr E. E. Gillman. VISITING COMMITTEE. The chairman reported that he had visited .the school several times during the month and had conferred with the headmaster, and that matters generally were quite satisfactory. SEWING MISTRESS AT TIROHIA. A letter was received from the Board asking the committee tp arrange for a sewing mistress at such schools under its jurisdiction where no female teacher was As this only referred to the Tirohia schoo.l Mr Veale was asked tp .try and arrange for someone to undertake the duties at Tirbhia. Failing the appointment of a Tirojhia resident the position to be filled from Paeroa.
