ERECTING CATTLE DIPS.
LEGALITY OF CONTRIBUTIONS. COROMANDEL’S POSITION. A legal point has evidently arised in connection with the ability of the Coromandel County Council contributing towards the erection of a cattle dip at Tapu, for. at the Thames County Council meeting on Wednesday a letter from the Coromandel County Council gave their solicitor’s opinion stating that that body was unable legally to contribute to the dost of erecting a cattle dip at Tapu. The chairman said it appeared that the Council was being blocked on ali sides. He suggested that the correspondence on the matter should be sent to the Stock Department, asking them to obtain the opinion of the Crown Law Office on the matter. The County Council could also get an opinion from the Municipal Association’s solicitor, Mr Martin. Or. Faithful said he was always of the opinion that the work should have been left for the settlers themselves to do. It was decided to ascertain the legal position.
