Several had already registered with the Hauraki Plains County Council. He had registered 15 dogs and collected £3 7s 6d. Some residents had refused to register the dogs, one refusipg oh the grounds that the fee was 10s. He submitted the names of those who refused registration of their canines. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr Walker for bis services, for which he refused payment. On Mr Ansford's motion it was decided that the clerk be instructed to take the necessary steps to obtain a refund of registrations collected by the County Council, and to take steps to force the owners of unregistered dogs to register same. ROADS'. The chairman, reporting on work done to the roads in the town area, said 15 j'ards of metal had been put on the main road. The cost of the metal would be about £9 and the labour about £6. Mr Ansford said the road from the post office corner was the first consideration. Mr Mules said the road from the post-office to the factory was in fair order at present. Mr Ansford said that two-thirds of the 25 yards of metal put on by the County Council had disappeared owing to the wet It was suggested that the County Council! should subsidise the Board for the- metal put on. Mr Davies said they were county roads and the board should subsidise the County Council. On the motion of Mr Ansford it was decided to apply to the Hauraki Plains County Council statipg that, r s the board was now putting 90 cubic yards of metal on the county road within the town board area, and taking into consideration the extraordinary heavy traffic the county was putting on a smaffl section of bad road by carting up to 300 cubic yards of metal, and in view of the fact that the county council was collecting equal to half the rate, they shpuld subsidise the board’s efforts by contributing yard for ya l ’-’, POLICE AND TURUA. The chairman considered that in view of the difficulty of getting into communication with the Plains pcfticeman the board should ask for a police station at Turua, dr, failing that, the policeman should be in direct telephonic communication. Turua was the place for the policeman, as it was handy to Auckland and to Thames and had an efficient telephone service. For a policeman on the Plains Turua was the centre. The members considered that there was rib residence available in Turua. They would, however, like to see him in direct telephonic communication. They would also like to see him established at Turua. Mr Davies moved that the Board write to the Minister for Justice, requesting that the policeman now resident at Kerepeehi be stationed' at Turua, as it had an efficient telephone service. The motion was seconded by Mr Scott and carried. FIRE BRIGADE. The chairman asked if the borird could do anything to obtain a volunteer fire brigade. Water could he obtained from the river, and possibly from the factory. The Board, perhaps, could not help financially. It would all have to be voluntary. Mr Ansford said it woud be a step in the right direction. The chairman said it woiAd cost a lot of money, but it was very necessary, The board, however, could not take it on. The discussion was then dropped. MEETINGS. It was decided that in future the Town Board meet in the board-troom provided in the new offices.
