OHINEMURI CLUB BALL.

A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The popularity of the Golf Ball was to a great extent responsible, no doubt, for the Ohinemuri Club launching out with its inaugural ball on Thursday last.. There was a large attendance of members and guests, who were received by .the hostesses, Mesdames J. L. Hanna, wife of the president, and A. Steedman, wife of the vice-president. Elaborate preparations had. been made by the commi .- tee and members, and the theatre presented a pleasing effect with the unique decorations and the many pretty dresses. The general scheme of decorations were black and gold. On either side of the stage and across the top was trellisrwork in black, interwoven with golden wattle, and Chinese lanterns shaded to suit. Suspended from the centre was a large globe covered with wattle, from which was also suspended a number of lanterns. Ribbons were extended from the centre globe to the corners , and sides of the teatre, and to these were suspended black and gold butter flies. The walls were relieved with ferns and butterflies. This, with liberal use of electric lamps, had a. very pleasing and soft effect, although, possibly, a little on the dull side. Credit is due to the decorative committee, the chief work being carried out by Messrs J. L. Hanna anw W. J. Towers. The decorations of the supper room were somew.hat different from those of the main hall in that greenery and flowers and flags were used with much effect.

Owing to the large number of visiting guests, who hailed from Hauraki Plains, Waihi, Hamilton, Cambridge, Morrinsville, Te Aroha, MatamUta, Thames, and other centres, it was impossible to get anything like a full list of the beautiful array of ladies’ frocks.

The function right through was undoubtedly the biggest and most successful of its kind yet attempted in Paeroa and reflects credit on all those responsible for the promotion and carrying out of the arrangements.
