“AUSSIE.”
THE AUGUST NUMBER. The August number of "Aussie,” a copy of which, has just reached us, presents in excellent style the genius of artists and writers of Australia and New Zealand. Much, credit is due to “Aussie” for the part it has taken in encouraging the young artists and writers in the Commonwealth and thie Dominion, The latest evidence of tihis spirit is seen in the liberal offer of £6O to give practical encouragement for. the improvement of black-and-white art and literature. This scheme w ; as first announced in the July "Aussie,” the period concerned extending over the months of August. September, and October. All matter accepted by "Aussie” and published during this term Tvill compete for the money, which will be awarded at the end of tire three months. The scheme, provides for a prize of £25 for the best drawing published in "Aussie” during August, September, or October; £5 for the best drawing by an artist, who has not previously had work published ip “Aussie”; £25 for the most humorous article, story, sketch or verse, and £5 for the best suggestion for a humorous picture.
