DROWNING ACCIDENT AT TURUA.

CHILD FALLS INTO HIVES. A fatal drowning accident occurred at Turua yesterday afternoop at 4.30 o’clock, when a little girl of ten years, Emily Mabel Lord, lost her life- It appears that the little child went to Sunday-school and afterwards, in company with Katlhileen Truelove, a little girl of about her own age,, went for a walk round the township. While out walking she slipped and fell into some mud. Using her handkerchief to clean her hands, she went to the landing of the wharf to wash her handkerchief, and in doing so overreached herself and fell into the river, There was a strong incoming tide running at the time, and the body was soon out of sight. The alarm was given, but the body was not recovered until 6.45 pm. The matter was reported to Constable Devereaux at Kerepcehi, who recovered the body. The only mark on tihe body was an abrasion on the left cheek. An inquest was held this morning by Mr W. H. Lucas and a verdict of accidental drowning was returned. The little girl Kathleen Truelove gave her evidence in a very clear manner.
