NEW TELEPHONE CIRCUIT
A UCKLANDnPAEROA. OPENED THIS MORNING. The business public will be pleased to learn that the three telephone circuits (two physicals and phantom) are now available for traffic between Paeroa and Auckland (Miranda route). This new metallic telephone circuit was opened by His Worship the Mayor of Auckland (Mr Gunson) when he called up the Mayor of Paeroa and extended congratulations upon getting a little nearer to the city. Those who have used the old service will know the weary wait that took place before getting through, and even then it was doubtful if you could hear. This is all now a thing of the past; a few moments is all that is necessary to get through, and distance is no object, the voices at the other end sounding as if they were in Paeroa. The distance in mileage is also considerably shortened as far as Paeroa is concerned: by 43 miles. The distances now are as follows, the old mileage being in parenthesis: Auckland to Paeroa 82 (125%) ; to Thames 104 (146%) ; to Waihi 94 (136%) ; f > Tauranga 140 (182%) ; to Te Aroha 96 (112%). Formerly the call had to go through Te Arqha, Morrinsville, and Hamilton, hence the delay. The new direct lines, will, however, do away with this necessity, and also relieve the pressure bn these lines. In order to test the lines we are indebted to the postmaster, Mr McDougall, for arranging a call with Auckland.
