A dispute over the ownership of a miserable half-bred Jersey calf, whose value is assessed at 15s, has been the subject of two actions in the Hamilton Magistrate’s Court, occupying three days of the Court’s time, necessitating two adjournments, the employment of two lawyers, and the subpoenaing of 18 witnesses. Defendant had failed to establish; ownership, and an order would be made for the return of the calf forthwith. Costs amounting to £8 19s 3d were awarded plaintiff. As on top ofi these costs defendant will have to pay his own witnesses, and both will have to meet their lawyer’s bills, it can be safely said that the dispute will cost fully £6O.

If the cry for linking up Waihi and Tauranga is carried put the congestion at Frankton Junction will be so great that the Paeroa-Pokeno connection will have to be carried out. Please make this section a platform at the coming elections.”
