VETERINARY CLUB.

APPLICATION FOR RESIDENCE. HELP FROM COUNTY COUNCIL. An application to have a residence erected at Ngatea for its veterinary surgeon, representatives of the Farmers Veterinary Club waited for the Hauraki Plains County Council at its meeting on Monday. Mr G. T. Davidson, on behalf of the Farmers Veterinary Club, requested help from the Council, which had the necessary powers to erect a house for the veterinary surgeon, who would be an asset to the district. He thought there would be no rate for the ratepayers, who would be merely guarantors. He considered the rent for the house should not be more than 25s to 30s per week. Mr R. T. Williams said it would be a sound investment for the Council. The veterinarian would be permanently established. The laud would be included in the cost of the building. Mr Walton (clerk) said that sections 192-195 of the Counties Act, in which was now incorporated the Workers Dwellings Act, gave the Council power to erect dwellings for workers within the county. -Cr. Chatfield asked that if there were no veterinarian for a period would the club guarantee the rent ? , Cr. Parfitt thought there would be no difficulty in getting the club to guarantee the rent. It could perhaps lease it for a period of years. Cr, Harris maintained the request was a reasonable one and in the interests of the district. The Council. should assist the movement, which was for the advancement of the County. Cr. Parfitt said the areas the veterinarian would work over would be Patetonga and Waitakaruru ridings, which should be the guarantors. He moved that the Council favourably consider the request. The motion was seconded by Cr. Harris and carried.
